Developing a Research Topic

Activity:

1. A short explanation of what you’re researching? how you’re researching it?

In this exploration, I have decided to focus on color analysis in animated films, understanding the personality and atmosphere rendering corresponding to different colors, and their impact on character shaping and story development

As for research, I reviewed some animation films that I think are more appropriate, such as “Coco” (2017), “The Secret of Kells” (2009), “Song of the Sea” (2014); In addition, I also use Google Academic and other resource websites to read relevant academic materials by searching for keywords

1-1.why it is important to research this subject/ the relevance to your project proposal.?

First of all, it is because I find the subject very interesting and I am glad to spend time and effort to explore it seriously. And secondly, exploring how different color elements are represented in relation to film and animation will benefit me in my own animation film later on.

2. Provide keywords/ key phrases used in your searches.

3. Provide at least four sources, debates or texts in the subject area and a short explanation of the relevance to your project proposal.

“The Role of Color in Animation: An Analysis of Visual Development” by Christina Hsu – This scholarly paper concentrates on the role of color in analysis in animation and its impact on vertical storytelling. It addresses the use of color as a narrative tool, an emotional enhancer, and a world-building element. The analysis offered can help in understanding the intentional use of color in animated films and its impact on the viewer.

“The Art of Color: The Subjective Experience and Objective Principles of Color” by Johannes Iten – This classic text explores the principals and theories of color in art as well as design. Iten’s work delves into color relationships, harmonies, contrasts and their effect on visual perception. It can provide valuable insulation on the use of color in animated films and help analyze the total color makeup in films.

“Visual Storytelling: Creating the Visual Structure of Film, Television, and Digital Media” by Bruce Block – Although this book does not focus exclusively on color, it offers insights into visual storytelling techniques. It covers concepts such as palette selection, color contrast and color symbolism that are applicable to analyzing the use of color in animated films.

“Color in Film” by Randall D. Larson – This text focuses specifically on the use of color in film, including animated films. It discusses the historical development of color in film and analyzes the significance of color choices in visual storytelling.
