Week 6: Setting up the scene in houdini

Due to the matchmove camera is based on 3DE and Maya, so the first step is to export the camera that we got and import into houdini.

In Maya

1. Export camera as the Alembic file

Select Cache > Alembic Cache > Export All to Alembic >select the “World Space” >Export

The most important thing:

Make sure to add the “World Space” to the abc camera

2. Export the animation

  1. Select all the objects in group
  2. From the main menu bar, select Key > Bake Animation >
  3. Click Bake

In the Bake Simulation Options window, select the bake options you want to use. For example:

  • Use the Bake To options to specify whether you want the animation baked to the BaseAnimation, or to a new layer.
  • Set Baked layers to Remove Attributes if you want the selected object’s attributes removed from any associated layers after their animation is baked.Attention: When Baked layers is set to Remove Attributes, the selected object’s keys will be removed from any associated layer that is not muted. If your workflow is to use layers like takes, mute all layers with keys that you want to preserve before baking layers.
  • Turn Smart Bake on if you do not need your result animation to have one key per frame

After baking, Export the same way as the camera(world space should also be applyed)

In Houdini

1. File ▸ Import ▸ Alembic Scene in the main menus to quickly set up an Alembic Archive object

2. Make sure the resolution is the same as the maya camera

add the camera background as the reference

3.Add a null to control the camera and the object

When the characteristics of quantitative or qualitative research are discussed, the four essential elements of the research process must be addressed.

They are epistemology, theoretical perspectives, methodology, and methods (Crotty, 1998). Denzin and Lincoln (1998) suggested that four basic issues structure the design of a research study:

(a) Which paradigm or worldview will inform the study design?

(b) Who or what will be studied?

(c) Which research strategies will be used? and

(d) Which research methods or tools will be used to collect and analyse data?

Research aims and objectives will form the basis for decisions on your approach to the methodology.
The first question you need to ask yourself is whether your research is exploratory or confirmatory in nature.

•Additionally, the methodology often includes the criteria your experimental studies need to meet to produce valid and reliable evidence. The information you cover in this part of your methodology allows readers to gain insight into how you measure validity and reliability during your studies.

Differences between the methodology and methods

While the methodology is the entire section of your research paper that describes your processes, the methods refer to the actual steps you take throughout your research to collect and analyse data.

The methodology usually appears at the beginning of your paper and looks like a summary or essay in paragraph form detailing your research validity, process and rationale. The format you use to describe your research and analysis methods can take various forms, depending on the type of research, type of data and type of assessments you use.

For instance, when describing the methods you use to perform quantitative and statistical analyses, the format you use may focus on a graph or chart to display your data. Additionally, the methods you describe within each part of your methodology can include tables or lists to demonstrate your research process and outcomes.

A qualitative approach is likely to take an explanatory written form detailing your research validity, sources process and rationale.

The purpose and format ultimately influence the content that you include in both your methodology and your research method details. However, the content within your entire methodology focuses on delivering a concise summary of your research, approaches and outcomes. Therefore, the content of your methodology includes all aspects of performing your studies.
The content in your research paper that details your collection and analysis methods differs because it’s often necessary to explain your scientific approaches and research processes with lists and visual aids (like charts or graphs) to support the information.

Literature review Tips on Structure

Usually, a literature review can be described as an objective, concise, and critical summary of published research literature pertinent to the subject being researched in an article. A literature can be an end in itself (an analysis of what is known about a topic) or a prologue to and rationale for engaging in primary research.)

The following are guidelines on how to write a literature review:


Organize the literature review around key topics of concepts. Use headings or topic sentences to convey your organizational principle.


Tell a story about the research. This will assist you with your organization.


Be selective. Incorporate only studies that are pertinent to your subject.


Synthesize and evaluate.
Use a summary to assist the reader to relate every section to the wider topic and to clarify your argument’s movement. Where have we just been and where are we heading to?

Week 5: Smoke sim by Fulid in Maya

After trying a variety of methods (replicating keyframes and replacing them with small balls, using parent-child animation for the emission source, etc.) to no avail, I followed the advice to use the more stable maya fluid to create smoke

1.Create a fluid container

In this project, I wanted to have part of the robot as the launch source, so I used the box below it as the container

choose the auto-size,cause I do not want my sim is be trapped in the container box

2.Select the container, and click the fluidShape tab in the Attribute Editor

3.Create fluids cache files

After all the adjustments of the sim,then try to create the cache

  1. Select the fluid container.
  2. Select nCache > Create New Cache > Maya Fluid > .
  3. In the Create Fluid nCache Options, set creation options, if necessary, and then click the Create button.
  4. Maya creates a fluids playback nCache file for the selected fluid container.

4. Render

The final result:

The problem is when I try to render the smoke(fluids in maya) in Arnold . No matter how I adjust my parameters, the box border is always there.

Developing a Research Topic

1. A short explanation of what you’re researching? how you’re researching it?

In this exploration, I have decided to focus on color analysis in animated films, understanding the personality and atmosphere rendering corresponding to different colors, and their impact on character shaping and story development

As for research, I reviewed some animation films that I think are more appropriate, such as “Coco” (2017), “The Secret of Kells” (2009), “Song of the Sea” (2014); In addition, I also use Google Academic and other resource websites to read relevant academic materials by searching for keywords

First of all, it is because I find the subject very interesting and I am glad to spend time and effort to explore it seriously. And secondly, exploring how different color elements are represented in relation to film and animation will benefit me in my own animation film later on.

Personal project proposal–Week 1&2

Introduction

For this personal project I chose to make a sculpture. The content is an abstract image of a mother in tears, tears falling drop by drop, through each tear, you can find that they contain different scenes, these scenes are all daily scenes (cradle, holding hands and playing together, quarrels during the rebellious period, children leaving home when they grow up)

Although my main direction is still special effects (simulation) as well as compositing. But for this personal project I really want to do sculpting, modeling and material work. This theme has been in my mind for a long time. I feel that technology should be used for creative and artistic expression, and I would like to take advantage of the free time I have at school to create what I want to express, as opposed to working.

What I want to express is the bond with mother and some remorse and relief of the way they get along with their family, whether mother or themselves is the first time to assume this role, we may not know how to express love, and clumsy in getting along to learn and hurt each other.
